Pittsboro sits about 16 miles from our shop in Chapel Hill, and the houses out here skew newer than what we see closer in. The median build year across our coverage area is 1994, but Pittsboro's own median lands at 1999 - late enough that most garage doors we work on here are second-generation installs, not the originals.
That five-year gap matters more than it sounds. Houses from the late 90s and early 2000s came with steel sectional doors and the first wave of chain-drive openers with keypad entry built in from the start, not bolted on later. With 2,025 households in the Pittsboro area, we're not dealing with a huge stock of houses, but it's a fairly consistent one - fewer of the oddball one-piece doors and side-mount torsion setups you'd find on an older street.
The housing stock across our wider service area spans 1967 to 2006, so Pittsboro sits toward the newer end but not at the leading edge. It's new enough that most of what breaks is wear-and-tear, not obsolescence.
